  • West Algarve

It is on the Western side of the Algarve where you will be dazzled with glorious beaches framed by cliffs and surreal rock formations.

Nominated by many as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Praia da Marinha offers impressive scenery, as well as a peaceful atmosphere and green area of fields.

Carvoeiro, which is only a short distance away, is a bustling and friendly small fishing village.

Ferragugo, Portimao and Praia da Rocha

  • Located across the river estuary of Rio Arade, we can find Ferragudo, a low rise old world charm village overlooking Portimão and the marina.
  • Portimão is the biggest city in the Algarve, and has a perfect shopping town centre, offering a wide range of clothes, gifts and souvenirs.
  • It has many famous fish restaurants under the old bridge, by the waterfront of the Arade River, as well as a sophisticated and colourful marina that is worth seeing.
  • The vast Praia da Rocha is just next to the marina and is one of the most lively and bustling holiday resorts, as well as a popular tourist centre.
  • If you head to the head of the hills north of Portimão then you must explore the outstanding Serra de Monchique, is it the highest mountain range in the south region, with cork and chestnut woods, as well as remote little villages?

Alvor

  •    The charming fishing village of Alvor with narrow cobbled streets is also well known in this area. It has two long sandy beaches just a walk away: Praia de Alvor and Praia dos Três Irmãos.

Lagos and Luz

  • The fantastic town of Lagos is vibrant for all age groups. It has an older part that is still circled by the 16th-century walls, historical churches and a modern marina.
  • The upper part of the town displays an amazing view over the Meia Praia Beach and its 4kms of golden sand, few kilometres ahead lay the recently developed resort of Luz, and its attractive Praia da Luz beach and a lovely promenade.

Sagres

  • If you continue to head west, you will reach the untouched village of Sagres, the site of Henry the Navigator’s naval school, it is still an attractive town with low-rise houses and quiet streets.
  • The cost around Sagres is dotted with secluded coves and wild beautiful beaches that are very popular with surfers.
  • Central Algarve

  • Vale de Parra, which you can find only five kilometres toward the west side of Albufeira, is an area of low hills and whitewashed holiday homes, with the wonderful and picturesque beaches of São Rafael, Coelha, Castelo, Galé and Salgados along the coast.
  • These glorious sandy beaches, as well as more intimate coves, offer some superb beachfront restaurants, perfect for fish and seafood lovers, the expanse of Salgados beach (where the popular Salgados golf course is located), links to the well-established holiday resort of Armação de Pera.
  •  Like many other Algarvian towns, Armação de Pera was once a small fishing village, but as tourism has taken hold it has expanded with many high-rise holiday apartments and hotels being built, particularly to the west.

Vila Real de Santo António Castro Marim and Monte Gordo

  • Linked by the river that divides the Algarve from Spain – the Guadiana River – you can find Vila Real de Santo António (a peaceful quaint town laid out on a grid system), Castro Marim.
  • The large town of Monte Gordo is spaciously laid out with wide and flat streets, ideal for walking and cycling, but the most charming city on the coast is, without a doubt, Tavira.
  • It reflects a mixture of architectural styles, cobbled streets revealing a Roman Bridge, Moorish whitewashed houses and numerous 18th-century churches.

Olhão

  • The fisherman town of Olhão is classed as the Algarvian Capital of the best seafood. It has the largest fishing port in the Algarve and offers beautiful sandbank island beaches in the protected nature reserve Ria Formosa.
